Julian Stirling is a physicist specialising in instrumentation. At the University of Bath he works on developing open source instrumentation in collaboration with collaborators in the Global South. His core project is the OpenFlexure microscope, a laboratory-grade open-source microscope. The core focus of this work is to enable manufacturers to produce it as an in-vitro diagnostic device. Alongside microscope development he helps to develop the open source software toolchain that is needed to transition open hardware toward production. For example, GitBuilding a program for hardware documentation.
